Mahashivaratri is a Hindu festival which is celebrated every year by Lord Shiva devotees. The festival of Mahashivaratri is usually celebrated in the months of February or March. Mahashivaratri is celebrated as the 'great night of Lord Shiva'. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated in the month of Falgun. This festival marks the defeat of darkness and ignorance. This year Mahashivratri 2018 will be celebrated on February 13, 2018. On this day devotees of lord Shiva recite the mantra, meditate Lord Shiva with fasting.

The auspicious time of Mahashivratri 2018

The auspicious time of Mahashivaratri will start from midnight on February 13 and till 14th February. On this day Lord Shiva will be worshiped from 7.30 am to 3.20 pm. At night, Lord Shiva's worship will be done one to four times, it depends on the devotees. After performing the traditional way of worship, the fast after the bath the next morning will end.

Maha Shivratri 2018 worship method

The practice of fasting on the day of Mahashivaratri has been going on for many years, but the way of fasting has changed a little over time. On the day of fasting, devotees wake up early in the morning after bathing and after worshiping Lord Shiva's idol in a nearby Shiva temple, so that the blessings of Lord Shiva always remain on them. This process of seeing God goes till noon, after which the temple is closed and once again in the evening the cupboards of the temple are opened for viewing. On this occasion, the idols of Lord Shiva are anointed in the temples. It is made from various ingredients such as milk, rose water, sandalwood, curd, honey, sugar and water.

Apart from this, the ballot paper, balpatra fruit and dhatura are offered on Shivling. Devotees fast throughout the day and on this day do not consume food except fruits and juices. Some devotees do not eat anything during the fasting day. Some devotees eat food in the evening before the worship in the night.
