Gauri Shankar Temple, Delhi

Gauri Shankar Temple is 800 years old near Digambar Jain Lal temple in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. This temple is one of the oldest temples of the Shaivite community of India. It is considered to be the cosmic pillar or the center of the whole universe. This temple was built by a Maratha soldier Apa Gangadhar which was the supreme devotee of Lord Shiva.

According to the stories, this soldier was wounded during a fight, he prayed to cleanse God and offered to build a temple after healing, after which the injured soldiers got up from serious injuries and escaped. Miraculously, despite all the obstacles to survive, he built a temple in Chandni Chowk. This temple was built in 1761. It is inscribed on the name of Aapa Ganga Dhar, in the lower part of the pyramid of the temple roof.

However, in 1959 this temple was rebuilt by Seth Jayapura, which is why the name of God is also inscribed on the windows of the temple. Inside the temple, the statue of Lord Shiva, his wife Devi Parvati and his son Ganesh and Kartik is kept. The furnished idols of Shiva and Parvati are located behind Shivling. A silver vessel is placed on top of Shivalinga, which keeps the water continuously falling on Shivlinga. Other attractions near the Gauri Shankar temple are the Lal Qila and Jama Masjid.
