Kalkaji Temple, Delhi

The famous Kalkaji temple is one of the most visited ancient and revered temples in India. It is located in Kalkaji near Nehru Place in Delhi. This temple is dedicated to an incarnation of Goddess Durga, Goddess Kali. It is also known as Manokamna Pradhan Peth. Mano kamana means that all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled here. The legend behind this temple is also very interesting.

It is said that the birth of Goddess Kali was made by Goddess Parvati, who wanted to protect other gods from a large number of monsters. Goddess took place in the form of residence here and thus this place emerged as a temple. This temple was built by the masonry of bricks, but it is presently decorated with marble and surrounded by a pyramid-shaped column from around it.

The temple's sanctum is 12-feet in which there is a spacious corridor equipped with marble on each side. There is a verandah surrounding the sanctum in which there are 36 arched leaves. Though there is a daily worship in the temple, during the festival of Navaratri, there is an atmosphere of celebration in the temple.

The festival of Navaratri comes twice a year. During this, devotees gather here and sing hymns in praise of Goddess Durga. The main attractions near this temple are Lotus Temple and Iskcon Temple.
